Understanding The Condition

Glaucoma Awareness

Glaucoma is damage to your eye’s optic nerve which is usually caused by pressure build-up in the fluid of the eye.

It tends to be inherited and may not show up until later in life. Regular check-ups are essential because early detection is the only way to prevent severe vision loss.

Glaucoma Diagnosis

Diagnosis

Our doctors diagnose Glaucoma via comprehensive testing protocols:

  • Conducting a thorough vision assessment test.
  • Checking the optic nerve for signs of damage.
  • Conducting a Tonometry test to check intra-ocular pressure.
  • Measuring central corneal thickness.
  • Taking a Fundus exam and requesting visual fields & OCT investigations.

Treatment Protocol

At The Laser Eye Care , treatment is targeted based on your specific condition:

  • Eye Drops: To reduce the formation of fluid in the eye or increase its outflow.
  • YAG Laser: Increases the flow of the fluid from the eye or stops fluid blockage depending on the Glaucoma type.
  • Microsurgery: If required, a trabeculectomy procedure creates a new channel to drain fluid and ease eye pressure.
Procedure Time: 5 Minutes
Recovery Time: One Week
Important: Lost vision cannot be restored, making early detection critical. However, lowering eye pressure can successfully preserve the sight you currently have.
